SEGMENT 1 – Show Open: Hello again, people helping people, Charlie wants to hear about Willie’s birthday weekend, Doug starts talking, starting with exciting weekend of college basketball, that Tom Izzo gets ‘Sparty’ back to the Final Four, active coaches in the HOF, that instant classic between Kentucky and Notre Dame, Doug sideways with the Irish for losing to the undefeated Wildcats when they came as close as anyone else to beating them, Doug feels there will be a foul called each time someone drives the lane, breaking down the block or charge call…, officials always want a wide base…, reaction from text line that Doug could be anti-Catholic after his comments about Notre Dame, The Cat had personal relationship with Mike Brey back in his Delaware days, cream of the crop coaches usually reach the Final Four, feel for coaches like Brey or Mark Few, that Bo Ryan won some championships in Division II, we like that Frank Kaminsky, reminds us a bit of Keith Van Horn, other players from that Wisconsin team, Alpena suggests that Sam Dekker will translate better into the NBA than Kaminsky, don’t say that humans are ‘long’, more about heighth, who we’re picking to win it all, going out on limb picking Kentucky, reaction to Texas firing Rick Barnes, argument over Gregg Marshall or Shaka Smart as their new coach, Doug remembers crying his eyes out when the Hawks left, could have had Pete Mavarich here…, we’re pretty sure Doug doesn’t like Mizzou, never use to be just a ‘point guard’, that Bob Cousey just dribbled with his right hand, the weekend that was for Willie, nice parties for him plus others, playing laser tag, getting a nice new ‘pant’, Tinder now limits the amount of likes per user, Cardinals Opening Day around the corner, big day/night in Llywelyn’s, dressing preppy, our appearance/action reflect on Doug…, difference between black out and brown out, news about Jaime Garcia running into some health issues, Cardinals plan to keep the left-hander in Florida more than likely when the season starts, already some concern with Redbirds probably not using fifth starting at the beginning of the season, wondering about someone like Michael Wacha coming back from his curious stress reaction injury, when pitchers can be fresh or worn out…, ‘saving bullets’, games in which Redbirds let Adam Wainwright go too long when the game appears to be in hand, names getting messed up on TV, someone labeling Jason Heyward as ‘Craig’ over the weekend, blame the graphics on the director, people like to make fun of us TV/radio folk for messing up, those big networks do fine work with covering games, the 2 Fox getting a new anchor soon, we like and respect that Tom O’Neal, thinking that Doug will last in the business longer than anyone, fun to imagine old shriveled Doug doing highlights some day, Rich Gould has been around much longer & wondering who would win scrap between Doug and Rich.
SEGMENT 2 – Heard that Rick Pitino played Billy Gilman for his team after their tough loss, crazy how that good life can end, argument over players going onto some professional team after college, Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joins the show, really think the weekend of college basketball was good for the sport, Joe did pretty good on his bracket, all the upsets were in the first rounds, no way that Michigan State should have been a #7 seed, thinking that Wisconsin can give Kentucky a run for their money, credit to John Calipari, shifting to Cardinals, do not need fifth starting pitcher really until April 19, no one applying term ‘injured’ to Jaime Garcia juet yet, Garcia fairly blunt when discussing his health, can manage innings with one start as opposed to over time, definitely believe that Pete Kozma will make the ball club, must acknowledge poor camp for starting player like Kolten Wong who has had early season struggles on his short resume, still some time left to get on track before the regular season, back to the debate of college players mostly playing pro ball somewhere, “prince of misinformation” issues for Doug…, winning a bracket, “Don in sales won again…”, someone trying to get Doug’s take on mustard being a soppin’, trying to figure out Doug’s style, Charlie talking smack on the other stations for sports coverage & always trying to top Doug…
SEGMENT 3 – Support those sponsors, weekend of eating that was for Charlie, having breakfast with cousin who’s an anthropologist, the life of digging up bones, how we’d do digging things up, digging up pterodactyl femurs, wondering if other antros try to fool others with a KFC chicken bone, drawing conclusions from random findings, someone find a bone of Peter the apostle, people still love dinosaurs, finding a fossilized waffle fry…, dinosaurs might have had waffle makers, JHE financing missions to space, that movie with “Encino Man” with Brendan Fraser, he was no good as Steve Nebraska in “The Scout”, actors that have to display athletic skills, the weekend that was for Plow Boy, really wasn’t much of a weekend, Plow Boy was not even asked to join Plow Girl at the Blues game, Plow Girl brave enough to take the Metro Link, not taking public transportation without some kind of armed guard or police officer, obviously different in other cities & would vote for Doug if he ran for office.
SEGMENT 4 – Supporting the sponsors, Kelly Chase of the St. Louis Blues joins the show, back to their loss against the Blue Jakcets over the weekend, catching CBJ at tough time as they’re playing hurt, some interesting things about playing at home, update on Alexander Steen suffering lower-body injury as well as TJ Oshie, not expecting anything long or big with those injuries, first night back for Kevin Shattenkirk was quite servicable, expecting that kind of play out of the All-Star defenseman to start with expectation of improvement with each game, the shape of the Central Division, Chaser wants to see the Blackhawks early in the postseason, going to get tough test each night from here on it regardless of the opponent or their record, expect the same out of the Canucks tonight as they fight for their own seeding, recent postseason success from the Kings gives any team the confidence to win regardless of seed, differing opinions on facing the Hawks early in the playoffs, if Doug were the coach…, bow your necks…, name on the front…, going to the Blues game, Plow Boy might drive Willie too, plenty of shuttles from Soulard, parking at the Blues game as a fan, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joins the show, update on Jaime Garcia being held back at the moment, depth of the starting rotation as well as the pitching staff going into the season, full bench or right-handed hitters going into the season, the Birds trading Sam Freeman to the Rangers, thoughts on Trevor Rosenthal having a terrific Spring Training, his bracket is pretty much done, the minor league players for the Cards have apparently killing the brackets this season, support the sponsors, hope spring eternal, The Cat needs to sing…, “gotta have heart…”, request for Michigan J. Frog, “everybody do the Michigan rag”, that’d be a good fight song, don’t want anyone driving off a cliff, people complaining about the content, Charlie reading his press clippings, more support for the wonderful sponsors, hope we haven’t upset any anthropologists, lot of digging near the Cahokia Mounds & occasionally hear from Tim when he’s on holiday.
