Lefty Jacksmear won the GFI Digital Email of the Day on Friday’s The Ryan Kelley Morning After for, as Doug Vaugh said, his nice historical lesson on a couple Jefferson County cities. Read the winning prose and listen to all the nominees below.
Ummm…yeah, so here’s a bit of Crystal City history: incorporated in 19 & 11, the town was founded primarily to make glass. Covering 3.74 square miles, this beautiful lil’ Jeffco secret sits alongside the mighty Mississipay. Local peeps do in fact refer to Festus & Crystal as the Twin Cities. The high school mascot is a Hornet, & I once blocked 9 shots in a freshman b-ball game vs dem Hornets whilst suiting up for the Herculaneum Blackcats. Wasn’t really fair, though, since I was around 6′ & their tallest player was roughly 4’3″. Oh, & by the way, Gordon’s Stoplight Diner is a fantastic place to get a burger if you’re visiting. Think Eat Rite, only with more grease.
