Torrence Watson, a junior shooting guard for the Whitfield High School boys basketball team, has been named our first ever High School Athlete of the Week for his recent performance against Westminster Christian Academy
Watson put up 45 points against Westminster Christian Academy and is averaging 25 points per game so far this season.
So what does it mean for the junior guard, who has scholarship offers from major Division I programs including Missouri, Saint Louis, and Texas A&M?
“It feels good, especially being out here with all of my friends. When I’m having a bad day I know they’ll be there for me and when I’m having a good day I know they’ll be there for me,” Watson said.
After losing a batch of seniors in 2015, Watson has stepped up as a leader for head coach Mike Potsou’s Warriors.
“He’s so very coachable, in the sense he’s going to listen to the finer points that are going to make him a better player,” Potsou said.
While he’s averaging 25 points per game, Watson hasn’t neglected the other areas on the stat sheet.
“He’s always able to score, but he also always looks around to see if he can get any assists, and he does that very well. He’s good on defense too in blocking shots and getting steals,” said MJ Wheeler, senior guard.
