Clay Travis of Fox Sports joined The Ryan Kelley Morning After to give his thoughts on the Cuonzo Martin hire for Missouri.
Are you happy with the hiring of Cuonzo Martin?
“I don’t think Cuonzo Martin is that great of a coach. For 7-years and 20+ million, I don’t think he’s that high caliber of a coach. I think the challenging thing about Cuonzo Martin is he doesn’t play an exciting brand of basketball. I think as a Missouri fan you should be prepared for a team with high expectations that never lives up to it.”
Does your opinion change at all about Martin with the potential of the Porter’s coming to Columbia?
“I think it depends on what your expectations are. Cuonzo Martin, no matter the caliber of players on his team, you never know whether he’s going to make the NCAA Tournament or not. If he’s able to recruit high level players at Missouri, I think he can get them to the tournament, but I don’t think he’s a top-ten basketball coach.”
Of the guys that were available, who would you have gone after?
“I don’t know if Missouri could even pay Greg Marshall, but if you’re going to pay big money, seeing if he was interested in that move makes a lot of sense. By and large, most guys, who are successful, really don’t want to move. You have to be able to find a guy who is willing or able to move.”
