SEGMENT 1 – Show Open: Jay Jr. back, we welcome Joe Strauss to ‘pee pee talk’, encourage Joe to #PLTD wonderful captains log, friends of Joe’s on the program this morning, always enjoys Joe’s chat on StlToday.com, start with the Cardinals being shut out 2-0 as Corey Kluber nearly no-no’s the Birds with 18 Ks, interesting situation involvng the baseballs that John Lackey noticed, happened one time with John Smoltz in Cincinnati, generally the league plus home club handle the baseballs before the game, interesting with Deflategate, high praise for Kluber from Matt Carpenter, #BFIB checks in with Joe claiming that Kluber nailed Matt Holliday on purpose plus Terry Francona doesn’t like the Cardinals, wonder if we’ll see anything carry over for the rubber match, Lackey hit Jason Kipnis later in the game that lead to ejection of Francona plus warnings to each bench, ‘Lackey knows cheating since he played for Francona in Boston’ according to “I Shaved My Balls For This”, interesting that Mike Shannon was criticizing Lackey for not retaliating in the bottom of the first, discussion of roster move coming soon, could be difficult to pull off this morning with early first pitch, maybe Randal Grichuk could ready to go, Jon Jay has had issue with hand since Spring Training, slightly surprised that Jay has not been DL’ed yet, hearing positive reports about Grichuk as of late, big series ahead for the Cards with the Tigers coming to town, weather may play a part, biggest element of the weekend could be Carlos Martinez, looking at his most recent starts in which the young hurler has let emotion effect his mechanics/control, early season test after some recent trends going back to last weekend when things seem to change a bit after Pirates turned their 4-5-4 triple play, Rick Hummel yesterday on the show said he liked the Reds to be the biggest division threat (to the Birds) whereas Joe picks the Bucs, reasons for liking the Pirates over the Reds, Tim is thinking the Cubs…, RESET!, lots to cover as the show progresses, SUPPORT THE SPONSORS!!!, Joe has been big proponent of Cardinals looking outside the organization since Spring Training for extra pitching for the starting rotation, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports joins the show, nothing in dispute about Cards pitching depth being set, definitely cannot rely on Michael Wacha even throwing 150 innings this season, six-man rotation usaully means the club is throwing out ‘non-starter’, very tough to manage, probably lose more you gain, minor league arsenal not what it used to be, Ken just does not see how the Cardinals get Hamels to STL, ball clubs do not concede at this time of the season, Ken believes the Reds will need to sell yet they’re barely out of the race, huge season ahead for the Reds in which the writing is on the wall, rest of the trade market for starting pitchers, Scott Kazmir obvious, Aaron Harang too, John Mozeliak knows he will have to address all the pitching needs at some point, Ken winning an Emmy for Outstanding Sports Reporting, nice shift to Ellen calling, she’s very curious about Joe’s recent column about the Blues especially his conversation with owner Tom Stillman, owner was reluctant to comment on the future of any personnel, quick thought on Baltimore, loose comparison to George Clooney, Ellen kind of have Joe’s number…, now we know why Willie or Jay didn’t have a chance with Ellen…, reason for lack of ‘pee pee talk’ this morning, little brother complex between Baltimore and Washington DC, little brother complex here towards Chicago, why Cardinals fans need their ball club to beat the Cubs, some kind of inferiority complex happening, KC thinks their thing with STL is like STL’s thing with Chicago yet a lot of us do not agree with that premise, Joe mentioned the airport really being quite telling for where STL is at this time, first thing that people see when landing, just depressing especially if you travel quite a bit & experience with friends leaving the area growing up here.
SEGMENT 2 – Joe wanted to hear some Culture Club, big afternoon for Plow Boy doing well with “Mario Golf” on N64, big doings on the Facebook fan page with Timberfake joining, Jennings lays out the reality of ProdJoe vs Timberfake…, SUPPORT THE SPONSORS!!!, Richard Justice of MLB.com joins the show, likes the Cardinals in the Central even with all their problems since all the other ball clubs in the division have bigger issues, easy to cry for help immediately especially when injuries happen, citing the Rafael Furcal injury from a couple seasons ago, view on the rest of the Central Divsion, Richard about to pull the plug on the Reds, like the Pirates, not sure how things will work out with the young Cubs ball club, most of baseball trusts the Cardinals to be the winners, Birds certainly know how to win in October whereas another club like the Nationals are still learning, nothing happening (that he knows of) trade wise at the moment, lot falls on the shoulders of John Lackey plus Lance Lynn, remembers the glory days of the Astros (Bagwell, Biggio, etc.) thinking the core could last forever, have to be able to quickly turnover especially when losing someone like Adam Wainwright, fear of window closing for the Cardinals run of success, difference between winning now or the future, high praise for working relationship for Owner-GM (Bill DeWitt Jr. and John Mozeliak), answers usually lie within, not completely certain about Michael Wacha giving the innings needed, certainly not counting on Carlos Martinez, ‘take health over anything else’ for October is what Jim Leyland use to say, questions/theories about near future plus long-term plans, Joe remembers the 2011 season in which John Mozeliak was apparently ready to move onto next season, Tony La Russa went to Bill DeWitt Jr. asking for change believing the ball club could still do something, trade was made getting rid of Colby Rasmus, Joe might write book on the season one day if he were ever to take on a project, the 2011 season could have changed so much for the DeWitt era, wondering if they re-sign Albert Pujols if they ball club does not make the postseason, at the time had not won postseason game since winning 2006 World Series, wonder if Mike Matheny ever becomes manager if 2011 does not end up being championship season, looking back the hiring process of Matheny who said to Joe that he was getting courtesy interview & hoping that Joe does indeed write about the 2011 season.
SEGMENT 3 – Goonies maybe won Best Picture in the 80s…, that stadium situation more and more interesting with each day, comments from Dave Peacock at a random brunch the other day claiming that Rams might stay yet Stan Kroenke could still go, Brain Feldt of the St. Louis Business Journal joins the show, had not heard Peacock say Kroenke is committed to the Los Angeles market, meetings that had lead to this point in which the comments were made, Peacock working forward though the momemntum to LA for the Rams have never slowed, MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be visiting to gauge interest for pro soccer in the area, Dan Flynn from US Soccer tagging along as well, could just be a show…, curious that Peacock responded ‘maybe’ to report asking about his interest in ownership group for potential MLS franchise, maybe putting the cart ahead of the horse, Strauss believes that Peacock kind of stated the obvious, moving forward with the next steps before the big meeetings with the league in San Francisco, keeping the discuss going with the stadium situation, political powers that be getting more and more involved, getting positive feedback from text line about Joe co-hosting this morning, Cardinal Cowboy calls, his wonderful charity work, getting called out by Timberfake, no benefit unless they’re doing something for charity, getting back to Joe’s column on the Blues that involved sit down with Tom Stillman, relationship between Doug Armstrong and Ken Hitchcock, would not make sense to break apart the work done by Armstrong with the roster, all about results in the postseason, wondering if Hitch’s system wears teams down before the postseason, NHL coach trade market becoming more interesting, Todd McClellan more than likely accepting job with Edmonton, the affect of Mike Babcock, expectation that resolution for all of this happens next week, if Hitch returns…, wondering about players who seem to reject the ‘buy in’ near the end, the ‘buy in’ not really profound or deep, curious what Joe thinks about the 2015 college football season especially the Missouri Tigers, lots of respect for the 2014-15 squad, very curious about the skill position players, have to believe the rest of the SEC East Division has to be ascending, just not seeing a third-straight division championship season, Gary Pinkel gets be on the sideline as long as he likes, could start questioning Pinkel’s longevity after an age like 65-years-old, some attacks from the text line, Tim not sure why, Willie seemingly snipes…., perception of Joe certainly varies, thoughts on the golf world, sport has serious problem with big time star, more text line thoughts, Joe’s feeling towards the Plow Boy & Pete calls wanting thoughts on the Blues.
SEGMENT 4 – Email of the Day
