The Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) is a leading developmental promotion to the UFC.
Main Event: Ian Heinisch vs. Lucas Rota
Former hotshot high-school wrestler,”The Hurricane” in Ian Heinisch (now 8-0) has had a hurricane of a life thus far, entering the LFA after having spent time in prison in both the Canary Islands and in the infamous Rikers Island in New York for his involvement in the drug trade, his specialty being in pills.
MMA transformed his life as he is now using it to mentor fellow troubled youth and it also got him into the homes of millions when he joined the LFA. Watch his full story here and check out the fight breakdown of his LFA debut below!
Heinisch, experience in muay thai, starts things off first with a kick to the Torso of Rota, who counters with a jab. Heinisch uses that wrestling ability he’s known for and forces a double-leg takedown. Rota gives up full mount, all his opponent needs to do is posture up. Heinisch instead sees a chance at what initially looks like a choke or headlock and moves to side control.
He keeps Rota’s bottom arm trapped, slides his right knee under a shoulder and simply adds pressure.
Ian Heinisch def. Lucas Rota via Shoulder Lock at 2:38 of Round 1
Co-Main Event: Nick Urso vs. Brandon Royval
Royval gets wild right out of the gate with a spinning hook kick and puts the #2 ranked fighter in the AXS TV Fights Rankings on his back with a takedown for a moment. As the position changes, Royal works for a Gogoplata. He then gets to half guard and hammers home a series of elbows. As Royval switches to an attempted Omoplata, the heavy favorite in Urso continues to punish him.
Urso looks for a rear-naked choke but his opponent stand up and they are nearly parallel against the cage fence. Urso briefly gives up his neck for a potential guillotine but trips Royval for another takedown before he notices. Urso maintains his striking from half guard and almost gets Royval’s back for a rear-naked choke. A flurry of strikes is exchanged on the feet before the horn.
Royval comes out this time missing with a left high kick and immediately changes to a kick marked for the ribs of Urso instead. A missed jumping knee results in a takedown that mirrors the spinebuster of professional wrestling and Urso is once again on top. Royval offers elbows again from the bottom as he gives up side control. Both men eventually are upright and even though Urso misses with a hook, he again plants “Raw Dog.”
Another go at an Omoplata turns into a key lock attempt and back to a Gogoplata. Urso keeps top position but is taking damage from elbows. Royval looks and fails to get a straight armlock as the round enters its last seconds. Clinch knees are traded just before the last frame.
Another high kick is blocked by Urso. Royval comes at him with a jab before returning to the kick ahead of another takedown. The fight is a replay of much of round two as Royval finally cuts his dance partner with elbows from the bottom while Urso is again in guard. Urso finally takes his back but is shucked off and looks for an arm-triangle.
The bout is inside the last 90 seconds and Urso is still hunting for an RNC. They trade leather for a bit before Royval sees a chance at another guillotine choke in the final minute. A spinnig back fist misses and a high knee comes next from the leading Urso. He maintains top position for the win.
