Mackenzie Litzsinger, a senior forward on the Summit girls varsity soccer team, is this week’s recipient of the 590 The Fan High School Athlete of the Week award.
Litzsinger is having a monster season, ranking ninth in the St. Louis area with 15 goals heading into Thursday’s contest against Kirkwood, where she added a pair of goals.
“She knows how to put the ball in the back of the net really well, she does it a lot, and she’s really funny to watch fall because she falls a lot,” teammate Gabriela Pacino said with a smile.
Last week Litzsinger tallied two goals in a 5-1 win over defending regional champion Bartlett and another goal in a game against Kickapoo.
“I started playing when I was really little because my sister played. It’s super fun and she’s my role model. I love it, it’s a good way to stay in shape, and it’s what I’m going to college for to,” Litzsinger said.
Litzsinger was a first conference, all-state, all-midwest, and an all-metro selection in her junior season.
“She wants to be the person to take the penalty kicks, she wants to be the person the team relies upon. From that aspect she’s done a great job doing those things,” head coach Chris Kappler said.
Litzsinger will continue her soccer career next season with Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.
