High School Athlete of the Week – St. Joseph Academy’s Kelly McLaughlin

Kelly McLaughlin, a senior center for the St. Joseph’s Academy girls basketball team, is this week’s recipient of the 590 The Fan High School Athlete of the Week award.

McLaughlin put together a dominant performance this past week with 62 points and 45 rebounds in three games during the Webster Winter Challenge.

St. Joseph’s Academy head coach Julie Matheny praised the senior center for her abilities on and off the court.

“She’s a delightful, committed young woman, who’s very dominant in the classroom and on the floor. She has a very kind heart when it comes to taking care of her teammates and in terms of her demeanor. She’s never afraid to work and she’s always trying to not only make herself better, but the team better,” Matheny said.

“Playing for St. Joe has been such a special experience. The coaches are always encouraging us to do better. It’s such a great atmosphere, the team gets along well and I can look back on these four years and be so happy I made this decision. We’ve done some special things together as a team and they’re memories that will last a lifetime,” McLaughlin said.

McLaughlin is committed to playing collegiate ball at Miami of Ohio.

The Angels have their next game at Visitation Academy on February 16.
