Nick Bulanda, a senior guard for the Marquette boys varsity basketball team, is this week’s recipient of the 590 The Fan High School Athlete of the Week award.
Bulanda dominated last week with 74 points and 15 rebounds over three games.
Marquette head coach Kevin Schultz spoke to insideSTL.com about Bulanda winning the award. He said Bulanda took a leadership role as an underclassmen and has parlayed that into becoming an impact player on the court.
“He started taking the reigns as one of our stronger players as a junior and developed that role into and on the floor leader this year. You could definitely see down the stretch, especially in the month of February, he started taking over some games and being the leader on the floor that we needed him to be,” said Schultz.
Bulanda said one of the things he loves about basketball is the way it helps him relax.
“It’s definitely a stress ball for me. Whenever I’m stressed out I go out and shoot around,” Bulanda said.
