High School Athlete of the Week: Affton’s Jarell Williams

Jarell Williams, a senior guard for the Affton boys basketball team, is this week’s recipient of the 590 The Fan High School Athlete of the Week award.

Williams had a monster week for the Cougars, registering 89 points, 25 rebounds, 16 assists and 9 steals in three games.

“This means a lot. These past few years, we haven’t really been on the map, but this is my senior year and we’re going to be on the map,” Williams said while talking with insideSTL.com this week.

William’s coach, Jay Laue, praised the senior for his talents both on the court and in the classroom.

“He’s doing very well on the court right now. I’m a marketing teacher at the school, so I’ve got him in class and he’s come a long way in terms of seeing that growth as a student athlete,” Laue said.

Williams is well on his way to another big week after putting up 16 points against Mehlville, leading the Cougars in scoring in the team’s 56-49 loss.
