On the Cardinals’ efforts at signing Yadier Molina to a contract extension:

“We’re working on it. We’re hopeful we can have something done by the deadline, which we’re on the clock for. But until it’s done we won’t know. It would be great to have Yadier Molina as a lifetime Cardinal and finish his career with us, so that’s our goal.”

How do you balance the business side and the emotions of wanting him to be a lifetime Cardinal?

“I think it’s a great thing if you can have an iconic player like Yadier Molina begin his career and finish his career with the Cardinals. He’s had a long career. But he’s in great shape. He was terrific in the World Baseball Classic. He’s got a lot – as he said – a lot of fuel in the tank. If we can add additional years on, that would be quite a career.”

Do you think it gets done by Sunday?

“The only comment I’ll have on that is we’ll make every effort on that and see how it turns out.”
