Our loss can be your gain.
Recently, Tim Pickett, our Vice President of Web Operations, told me he thought it was the right time for him to begin seeking other job oppportunities. Tim came to me in January when he was looking for a new job, and I thought that the timing was perfect for him to head up the transition from the old insideSTL.com to the new one you see today. He is/was more than welcome to stay in his position, but with the hours this job requires and the birth of his new son, he felt now was the best time to start looking for something with more of a set 8 or 9 to 5 schedule.
As is the character of Tim, he said he would continue to work at insideSTL.com until we found his replacement.
We've gone through some various channels in an attempt to find our new VP of Web Operations, and I'm quite happy to say that we have interviewed some outstanding candidates, and I would be comfortable offering the job to one of them right now.
However, in discussing this with Tim and the other fine gentlemen at the office, it's my opinion that we would be missing a great opportunity to present a, well, great opportunity to one of the thousands of people who visit this site everyday and consider themselves fans of the content insideSTL.com provides and the events we host.
Therefore, before proceeding with more interviews and/or a job offer to one of the candidates we've already interviewed, we at least want to present the opportunity for a local St. Louisan and fan of insideSTL.com to apply for the job of insideSTL.com VP of Web Operations.
This is an IT position. IT experience is mandatory in order for a candidate to be considered. However, that doesn't mean years of experience are necessary, either. The main responsibilities of the position are:
-Update daily content 7 days a week. Only a couple of sections require updates on the weekends.
-Edit columns and insert images into the various columns.
-Design ad banners and promo banners.
-Organize the layout of the homepage for each day and the updates throughout the day.
-Serve as insideSTL.com's liason between the company that built insideSTL.com 2.0 and our hosting company.
-Develop new pages as insideSTL.com continues to expand.
Essentially, if you're an IT guy and you've wanted to be able to be the "lead guy" on a popular website and paint the canvas of this site every morning all while playing the main role in the development and growth of the site, this could be your dream job.
I want to make it clear that even though this site may come across as a grabass haven full of smart-ass columns, message boards, and pictures of beautiful people...this is a business.
It was a hell of a lot more fun when it wasn't a business, but it is one now, and if you want to come and work here, be aware that while the site is a jackass haven, the reason it's been able to exist for 3 years is because we work pretty damn hard on it.
I write the above really to weed out the people who think they'd be applying to come and work in an office where Girls Next Door are just leisurely strolling around like the mascots in SportsCenter commercials. Do we have a good time at times? Yeah. It's probably a more laid-back atmosphere than the average office...and yeah, there are obviously some fringe benefits socially to working at insideSTL.com.
But, it's a job. And, I take this job real seriously. It's recommended that you have some thick skin and a desire to work your ass off if you want to apply for this position. However, if, after all of the above has been stated, you are interested in coming to work at insideSTL.com in one of the most important positions the company has, please email me your resume and a cover letter at tmckernan@insidestl.com.
