Not off to a good start this weekend with the picks. After Thanksgiving, I'm at 1-2.
It was a strong* play to take the Lions against the Titans. Any credibility I may have had with these picks was destroyed right then and there...much like that sorry outfit from Detroit.
In an attempt to continue the 9-win weekend streak I have going dating back to early November, I have to rally on Sunday.
Dolphins (-8) at Rams: Fortunately, the Rams are to sure things what the slightly overweight Gamma Phi Beta was at the Sigma Chi House in Columbia, Missouri circa 1994. Pick: Dolphins (-8)
Broncos at Jets (-8): Onward and upward to the Super Bowl for the Jets. Meanwhile, the Broncos have folded up shop, have been outscored this season by nearly 50 points, and yet somehow still are in first place in the AFC West. Of course, the last place team in the AFC East would be in first place in that dreadful AFC West. The Broncos finna get worked. Pick: Jets (+8)
49ers at Bills (-6.5): I am a little confused as to why this spread is so low. But, it's not scary, shady low. Shoot And Fix may put some points up, but the Bills will treat the Niners like the Niners treated the Rams. Pick: Bills (-6.5)
Saints at Bucs (-3.5): The Bucs are either the completely forgotten team in the NFC...or the team that now many media dudes are saying are the most underrated in the conference. It's one extreme or the other. I'll buy into the latter. Pick: Bucs (-3.5)
Panthers at Packers (-3): Scratch the above. Carolina is the most underrated team in the NFC. There's something to be said for beating the hell out of each other in a training camp fight. Pick: Panthers (+3)
Giants (-3.5) at Redskins: At some point, I'll stop saying I don't believe in the Giants. This will not be that weekend. Pick: Redskins (+3.5)
Ravens (-7) at Bengals: There's nothing more magical than a Thanksgiving weekend
game blacked out in Cincinnati...with the exception of a Thanksgiving weekend game blacked out in St. Louis. Pick: Bengals (+7)
Colts (-4.5) at Browns: I don't know where the Colts have come from, but all the talk of my guy St. Kurt Warner winning the MVP has overshadowed the job Peyton Manning has done this year taking the Colts from the edge of 2004 "Ram-dom" to back in the mix. Pick: Colts (-4.5)
Falcons at Chargers (-5): I believe in whoever that guy is coaching the Falcons. Actually, now that I think about it, the Falcons are the most underrated team in the NFC. Pick: Falcons (+5)
Steelers at Patriots (-1): My inclination was to go with the Patriots, but then I realized that I've done a lot of picking with my inclinations this year. I'm going to visualize the Steelers handling business, and I feel confident in this play. I like the Steelers a lot on Sunday. Do with that what you want...like take the Patriots. Pick: Steelers (+1)
Chiefs at Raiders (-3): I've always wondered who CBS' version of Matt Vasgersian and J.C. Pearson is. Whoever they are, I'm quite certain they are in the Bay Area right now. Pick: Chiefs (-3)
Bears at Vikings (-3): I have a theory that playing the Rams is like contracting an STD from a one-night stand: Sure, it's wondeful to pound away for a couple of hours...but you'll pay for it later on. Most of the teams that beat the hell out of the Rams one week will have some real issues the following week. It's not a foolproof theory, but when you look at the records of the 9 teams that beat the Rams, they're 3-6 the weekend after playing the
Rams (and 2 of those wins were the Giants beating the fucking Bengals in overtime and the Cardinals barely holding off the 49ers with a goal line stand). There's something to it. And, we'll see evidence of it this Sunday for the Bears. Pick: Vikings (-3)
Jaguars at Texans (-3): This game belongs on Monday night like the Rams' game belongs on an NFL schedule. Pick: Texans (-3)
