Dan Dierdorf has been named winner of the Pete Rozelle Television-Radio Award by the Pro Football Hall of Fame
By Howard Balzer Monday, July 07, 2008

This year's Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend will have a St. Louis connection with the announcement that Dan Dierdorf has been named the 2008 winner of the Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award. Given annually by the Canton shrine, the award recognizes "long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football."

A native of Canton, Dierdorf currently is an analyst for CBS broadcasts of NFL games, and played for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1971-83. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996.

He becomes the third person to receive the Rozelle Award along with having a bust in Canton as a coach or player. Frank Gifford, enshrined as a player in 1977, received the Rozelle Award in 1995. John Madden was named the Rozelle Award winner in 2002 and was selected for the Hall of the Fame for his coaching career with the Oakland Raiders in 2006.
