Whether it's been validated in a contest which I'm unaware ever took place, or it's simply become a parody of itself, the "Best Fans in Baseball" sure do have many a flaws for such an esteemed group of supporters. Within the fanbase lay a sector of whiney, overly-defensive members. It's almost as if the select group has some sort of inferiority complex, brought on by a perceived East Coast bias, among other various factors.
Case in point Dayn Perry's recent Cards column on Foxsports.com. Perry
went so far as to call the Cardinals "the most compelling team in baseball", but did ad the 'disclaimer' that with no Pujols and no Wainwright, it won't be easy. That was the extent of the perceived negativity, but some of the commenters who call the Cardinals their favorite were apparently reading in between the lines… like, really far in between the lines.
Here's a sampling of some ridiculous comments of the "persecuted Cardinals fan". I promise that I did not doctor any of these quotes to portray the fans as seven year olds.

"If we were to listen to every negative article written, we would never have the chance beat anyone. Just like the comment I heard from a Cubs fan last year at Wrigley while I was watching the Cardinals play the Cubs. He saw my Cardinals jersey and then said that the Cardinals were the WORST TEAM to WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!! what an dumbazz!!!!! Maybe he was a sports writer!!!! This guy is in the same class as Dayne!!!!"
Yes! What an dumbazz!!!!!

"Dayne…. lemme guess….you're an east coast guy, right? You don't know Cardinals baseball. A typical team - let's say, Oh, i don't know, the Yankees - would collapse under this mountain of injuries. This has happened nearly every year that LaRussa has been in St. Louis. Adversity makes this team thrive. Do us a favor and go cover the Yankees and Red Sox."

See, it's those damn Yankees and those damn East Coast writers.

Big Diezel says:
"Hmmm…minus Pujols, minus Waiwright, and Molina goes down in today's game, and StL still takes two of three from Philly - top dog in NL East. They may not win the Central, but even Dumbazz Perry has got to admit that StL & Tony L. is doing more with "less" than maybe any other manager in baseball today. Nevermind…Perry isn't man enough to give credit where credit is due."
Big Diezel, I think that was kind of the point of the column. Did you read it?

Anytime (Perry) gets the chance he is always downgrading St.Louis,,at the beginning of the season he said they had no chance, now he seems to be trying to change his tune but still giving himself an out if they don't win,,is this guy a loser or what?
It really baffles me when fans take exception to a media member admitting a team is good even if it means going back on a previous prediction. Would you rather people like Perry ignore reality and maintain the Cards aren't any good?

Perry they should have an ALL-STAR for IDIOTS…you'd be right on TOP. Go take your comments and shove um. CARDS are great team…our history of the club speaks for itself. Perry go away!
This one looks as though it was written by the Gap girls on Saturday Night Live, played by Chris Farley, Adam Sandler and David Spade. "You're so stupid that, that when they were passing out brains you thought they said trains and you, you bought a ticket and you took a ride."

D. Perry is a joke…no #### genius…the Cards will miss the two most valuable players on their team…and probably will taper off until their returns. This guy actually gets paid to write this stuff???…so insightful! And yes, I remember this D*mbsh*t saying the Cards were going to be a doormat this year…he is taking your money FoxSports and making you all look like fools!!! Get rid of this no talent joke!!!
Somebody must have burned their toast that morning.

I wish I had Dayn Perry's email because I would send him a nice long length email about why he's stupid.
Since when is Glaus and Ankiel considered "role" players? Rick Ankiel is a better story (only slightly) than Josh Hamilton. Substance abuse is hard to overcome, but is extremely possible. Overcoming command issues, changing from a pitcher to a hitter when you've been a pitcher for almost 10 years and learning how to swing the bat with authority…yeah, much harder. Will we be hurting without Pujols? Yes, but only slightly. We have enough force to overcome the loss.
I'm sorry, but Kyle Lohse and Todd Wellemeyer are extremely good. We can live without Wainwright for a month. These two can carry the rotation, since they are the number three starters (Carp is still the ace), for a month. Why? Because in that month we'll be getting back: Carpetner, Clement, Mulder and then Wainwright. Yeah, I think we're fine.
Oh yeah Dayn Perry, BITE ME. We have better pitching prospects than hitting. Let me name some for you since you obviously don't do ANY homework on ANY story you EVER write: Jamie Garcia, Clay Mortenson, Jess Todd, Mitch Boggs, PJ Walters, Adam Ottavino, Tyler Hrron, Mark McCormick. Learn how to write a story Dayn Perry because you've been failing at for a LONG TIME.

Rather than trying to point out all the stupid remarks in that rant, I'm going to wrap it up and just hope these Cardinals fans simply go away. They're really making us normal fans look bad.
