So as I'm writing this, I'm just a few hours away from my flight to Vegas to see my buddy "Governor" Sean Boles and a couple other friends play in the World Series of Poker. Because of work, I was not able to see Tim's strong play in to Day 2A but I can tell from his texts and article that he's on cloud nine right now. But since this is the STL Golf section, back to the links:
Men's Districts
I apologize for last Monday's article as I was not able to let you know the winners of Men's Districts (as semifinal and final scores weren't available until Monday). Go to www.stldga.com for the complete scoring from the
tournament under Griesedieck Men's Championship. Last time I updated you, it was the man with the home course advantage Skip Berkmeyer versus the always-strong Matt Hines in one semifinal and Wake Forest golfer Justin Bryant versus Joe Timpone in the other semifinal. These matches had the makings of being truly special and didn't disappoint. Berkmeyer outlasted Hines 1 up and Timpone did the same against Bryant. So it was arguably the best golfer in Missouri playing on his home course versus a guy I've never heard of (and as you know, I follow these tournaments VERY closely). Needless to say, Berkmeyer did what I believe most thought he would do and won handily 5 and 4. That's not to take anything away from Timpone who had a great four days. But when you're up against Berkmeyer at home, I could draw the comparison to Tiger at Torrey Pines and say that I'd take Berkmeyer and you can have the field. More times than not, I'm going to win with Skip at Norwood.
Beverage Cart Girl

We at insidestl.com have been truly impressed and excited about your support of the winter 2007 brainchild known as the Beverage Cart Girl of the Week. Tim and I thought this could be successful but never did we imagine that it would take off like it has. And because of this, I've taken over this section and want you the readers to keep an eye out for any potential girls. We want to keep this going through the end of the STL Golf "season" (through October), so we need you to be our eyes. Thus, if you meet someone worthy of a photo shoot, please email either myself at rpohrer@insidestl.com or Tim at tmckernan@insidestl.com. You can help keep this thing going through the fall, so keep us in the loop should you witness 70 year old creeps hitting on 20 year old Mizzou sorority girls.
Bellerive and the BMW
Man, is that course playing difficult right now. Because of my real gig, I had an opportunity after going to a couple of meetings on site Monday to play the course. Let me just say if they keep the rough like they have it, I don't think they're going real low. Between the rough, the length, and greens that are bound to be quick (they were not very fast Monday, btw), I think this could play akin to a major.
In full disclosure, I was playing well (for me) at +3 for the day and then the wheels came off on our eighth hole (#17). I was pin high in two in the left bunker on the par-5, so I was thinking birdie was a real possibility. Unfortunately, a bladed bunker shot out of play led to a double and I never recovered. Did I mention their bunkers were VERY difficult to figure out? Our entire foursome was struggling with them. But all in all, a great day was had by all. I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the folks at the Western Golf Association in Gabe Ottolini, Anne Fischer, and Karen Bryner for their fine hospitality on Monday. Thanks again!
