Remember Troy Glaus? He was that dude that was pretty good last season for the Cardinals over at third base and as recently as July was considered an important element to the fate of the 2009 team.
Now? Well, now he's a 27 HR, 99 RBI player that 29 other teams would love to have, but on the Cardinals? He's a bit player barely hanging on to the 40 man roster and most
certainly done with the organization come October 5th. No post-season. Nothing but a thanks and a slap on the ass.
I suppose you could say that things are good in Cardinal Nation.
After last nights 10-3 dressing down of the Milwaukee Brewers the Birds on on the precipice of 25 games over .500 and in prime position to clinch the NL Central with weeks to go in the season. Matt Holliday has continued his torrid hitting pace, while Albert is regaining a mildly dormant power stroke. Hell, we haven't even mentioned the pitching- the same pitching that is treating the NL bats like we're in a sequel to Inglorious Basterds.
It's fucking la la land. And we're ass deep in the rabbit hole.
For people that have read my crap in this space for the better part of 2 years, you may wonder what exactly does a writer do who's only crutch in his craft is overt cynicism and overly-dramatized criticism. Well, to be honest, I don't know.
I can sit here and suck off Chris Carpenter for another W. I could give a verbal handy to Skip Shumaker for another 4 hit game. I could proselytize any number of players for your edification. But we've got the Post Dispatch for that. No, I'm going to have to do exactly what you do... sit here and wait for the sky to fall.
While this team is fun to watch, I can't help but wait for that text or e-mail or call that tells me what I don't want to know... that something has happened to derail this dream season.

Let's be honest; it just can't continue on like this. It really can't.
Can it?
Can they dodge every injury, every bad break, every bit of terrible luck? Perhaps it's the cynic in me begging to come out- but this is too much... like praying to win the lottery and actually winning it- Holy Shit- I've got the money, now what the F do I do?
For now, I suppose I'll enjoy what I can. Soak in these never ending wins. Wonder what's around the corner.
