Kicking it in the Desert
By Jack Walker Saturday, June 27, 2009

This past week I’ve been in beautiful Las Vegas Nevada. I’m one week ahead of all of the insidestl.com
people as they make their way out here next weekend to watch Tim McKernan win the WSOP. I figure it’s a big city that needs some breaking in for them before they get here. So in the fashion of Timmy’s Tidbits, and Bernie’s Bits I present you with some random thoughts o Jack.

Upon his return from the DL Khalil Greene had a great weekend in Kansas City hitting a home run in every game. After going 1-3 Monday night in New York, Greene didn’t get another hit in the series going 0-11 Tuesday thru Thursday. While I don’t think either is a fair representation of his future production I fear that he will be closer to the 0-11 guy rather than the big production guy. I hope for his mental health he gets it figured out. Also, am I the only one who thinks he looks just like Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

For all of you coming out to Vegas next week you need to go to Serendipity 3 at Ceasar’s Palace and get the steak breakfast sandwich. First they put a real steak on the sandwich, not some chopped up beef that’s representative of dog food. They then garnish it with some over easy eggs, bacon and cheddar cheese. Now picture the sandwich being the size of your arm. It was as if Jesus himself came up with, and cooked this sandwich for me. It was the best food I’ve ever eaten that involved egg.

I placed a 100 bet with 20/1 odds that the Cardinals would win the 2009 World Series. Come on boys, daddy needs a new pair of shoes!!!

Is it just me or is Albert Pujols performance of late start to make you wonder if there is any truth to the ESPN commercial? His performance is more machine like every day.

It is 96 degrees out here and it feels great. I always thought the “it’s a dry heat” excuse was total bullshit. But
it’s true. No humidity equals-no misery.

Even though it made me the
most loved writer in the STLCardinals section, especially by one poster, I still believe that Cards ownership needs to do more to help this team over the edge. The reason I am so passionate about it this year is I truly believe this team could be special. They are just a few pieces away from making a major run in the post season.  If I would have questioned the Rams or Blues ownership to the degree that I questioned Bill DeWitt I don’t think any reader would have a problem with it.

I’m going to get back to donating money to the casinos. It’s nice to see all the cool shit that my money helped buy.

Jack, I know some of us gave you a verbal bashing last week (and I still think you should have someone edit your punctuation), but this is much better. I didn't really give two craps about some of it, but to be fair, I think Bernie's Bits and Timmy's Tidbits suck, too.

Your critique of Cards ownership this week was more what it should be--advertised as something from the heart of a passionate fan, not regurgitated crap like one of your "colleagues."

Keep writing.
