Twangfest 12: Let The Twang Begin
By Wednesday, June 04, 2008

Tonight marks the first night of Twangfest 12, brought to you by KDHX 88.1 FM. As always, the line-up is superb, offering a little bit of everything from artists across the nation. The festival is spread out over four nights (June 4 through 7) at four great St. Louis venues: The Schlafly Tap Room, The Duck Room, The Pageant, and Off Broadway. If you’ve failed to secure your tickets for any of the evenings, you can still purchase single-night tickets here. Another cool thing about this year’s event is the auction, which features over a hundred items. Check it out here.

Now, let’s take a pass through the schedule for Twangfest 12:

Wednesday, June 4
The Schlafly Tap Room
2100 Locust Street at 21st
St. Louis, MO 63103
314.241.BEER
General admission; doors open at 7:00 PM.

Chuck Prophet
Centro-matic
The Builders & The Butchers
With eight solo albums under his belt, Chuck Prophet provides a potent headliner for the first night. His latest record, Soap and Water, is one of his best, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing plenty of it tonight.

Thursday, June 5
The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill
6504 Delmar
St. Louis, MO 63103
314.727.0880
General admission; doors open at 7:00 PM.

The Gourds
Charles Walker & The Dynamites
Deadstring Brothers
It’s been 12 years since they recorded it, but you’ll probably still hear calls for The Gourds’ countrified cover of Snoop Dogg’s “Gin and Juice.” And while they’ve written and recorded some superior tunes over the years, they’ll probably oblige as you enjoy a beer or two over their set. The musicians from Austin aim to please, and their latest release, Noble Creatures, show them in fine form.

Friday, June 6
The Pageant
6161 Delmar Blvd
St Louis, MO 63112
314.726.6161
General admission; doors open at 7:00 PM.
Old 97’s
Hayes Carll
Miles Of Wire
The Old 97’s put on a fast and furious show, so you’ll probably want to be standing in the pit for this one. Blame It On Gravity, released last month, has been getting great reviews, so if it’s been a while since you’ve caught their live show, now might be the right time.

Saturday, June 7
Off Broadway
3511 Lemp Ave
St Louis, MO 63118
314.773.3363
General admission; doors open at 7:00 PM.

The Waco Brothers
Ha Ha Tonka
The Everybodyfields
Caleb Travers
The Waco Brothers are a fine headliner, but don’t be surprised if The Everybodyfields, from Johnson City, TN, steal the show. The sweet harmonies of Jill Andrews and Sam Quinn are as good as it gets, and their live show is a focused and brilliant display of talent. “Lonely Anywhere” is probably one of the better songs I’ve heard in the last few years.
