Jay Jr. filled in for Doug again and Austin filled in for Iggy
The guys wonder if the Cardinals will make a move after losing another game last night because of the bullpen…..The bullpen is a recurring problem no matter if the team is hitting or not….Cat still likes Chris Perez, but he had some control problems……George Sherrill of the Orioles is another option besides Fuentes…...Cat thinks the Cards are playing the waiting game to have the price come down so they don’t have to give up their top prospects…..
The guys take calls and they discuss why Ryan Ludwick isn’t in every game even though he is the team’s RBI leader……
The last time Dave Duncan was on, he was very candid, but he said that he thought Cat was going to be a part of the interview…..The guys agree that there is some reason to criticize Chris, but they know Dave doesn’t want to talk about him so they will stick to questions about the pitching staff…..
Buzz Bissinger flipped out again at the College World Series because of a camera….. Security told him to bring his camera bag back to his car, and when Buzz said that he didn’t have a car because he took a shuttle to the game from his hotel, they told him to bring it back to his hotel. Things got heated when he refused to leave the game because he would have missed almost the entire thing, and he was with his 3 sons…..Half a dozen security guys slammed him to the concrete, and his glasses broke at the college sporting event that is supposed to be a family event…..
Jay Williamson:
Jay Jr. thought that Williamson would want to take this weekend off, but he said he can’t. He is on a road trip and has to keep going…..The guys talked to him about how he kept a diary at the British Open on the Post-Dispatch website….He said that the week really flew by fast…..Weather wise, Monday was the best day he was in England, but the course was amazing….He can see how people over there love playing golf…..Jay went over there not really knowing what to expect. He knew he could play but didn’t know how to react. He said he went over there to compete—not to eat fish and chips, and he was very disappointed at his finish…..Jay said he doesn’t know if it was the best decision for him to play abroad instead of in Milwaukee because it would’ve been easier to win money there…..Jay is so sick and tired of people saying that they aren’t going to the BMW Championship because Tiger isn’t playing now. He hopes people can see the big picture and realize that a lot of the top golfers in the world are going to be there….Jay said he is looking forward to getting back to St. Louis, and he may come in studio.
WWE Wrestling Recap:
JBL, who took over for Vince McMahon kept Bautista from having a champion fight….. Wrestler Kane was a friend with Brandon Mudd, and he actually was in the old studios one time.
Dave Duncan:
Last night was a tough loss, but Dave thinks everyone forgets that they just won 5 in a row….The Cards are going to lose some games, and they need to win more than they lose, which the team has been doing……Dave said that when a closer doesn’t do well it is magnified greatly, but that he thinks they have a pretty good record when they have a lead after 7-8 innings this year…..You have to be looking around to see if there is any way to improve the bullpen. You are always doing that no matter how good the bullpen is. Dave thinks there are 3 or 4 guys who could help the team, but you don’t know who could reasonably be traded for….Izzy needs to simplify things, simplify his approach, and work his way back into his role. He wants to get the closer role back tomorrow, so he isn’t focusing on one pitch at a time, and staying relaxed…..Dave said that he thinks Izzy’s pitch selection was bad on Sunday. There is no doubt that the organization would like to see Izzy get his 300th save with the Cardinals, but they aren’t going to give him the opportunity at the expense of the ballclub…..Dave thinks Todd Wellemeyer threw the ball pretty good the other day. You can’t put all 5 runs on Todd’s shoulders because of the defensive play…..We really don’t pitch for strikeouts….Dave said that they pitch to put the ball in play……Wainwright will throw off the mound today for the first time, and Dave doesn’t expect his arm to be too out of shape…..Duncan expects that Carpenter will be back before Wainwright because he is feeling good physically, and his conditioning is there. He will probably throw between 85-90 pitches in his next outing……Most of his pitches were good in his last outing, and Dave expects him to come out of his next outing pushing to get back with the team……Dave said that Carp could be back as soon as after his next start if everything goes well, and he doesn’t expect Chris to need more than 3 total starts in rehab…..Dave has liked Kyle Lohse since he first saw him pitch. Since he has been with the Cardinals, Dave has appreciated his talent even more. He can do many different things to get hitters out, and his mental confidence is where it needs to be. Dave said he likes Lohse a lot, but he doesn’t get into the contract talks……

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to do something because of emotions…..Jay took a shot at Tim saying he wasn’t very successful in Vegas, and Cat said the shot bruised Tim’s ovary…..Jay Williamson said that you do not go to England for the women ……..When you have a wingy wingy party they ask if you want to start out with 200 or 400 wings…….Tim thinks that Justin Timberlake does a great job hosting SNL and the ESPYs……Tim has a weak stream and would lose to the Cat in a pissing contest…..
