Kaylon Buckner, a junior on the Ladue girls varsity lacrosse team, is this week’s recipient of the 590 The Fan High School Athlete of the Week award.
Buckner tallied five goals in Ladue’s 8-3 win over Kirkwood in the championship match of the Webster-Kirkwood Invitational. In just three years at Ladue, Buckner has already scored more than 190 goals.
“I love playing lacrosse because it’s so versatile. Being able to be a midfielder and play on both sides of the field and just having an impact like that. I also love the team aspect and everything that goes on with having teammates and having fun and just making sure we win really,” Buckner said.
Buckner’s coach Lauren Rhodes said the junior midfielders impact is felt both on and off the field.
“Kaylon’s an amazing asset to have on the team. Not only is she a team player, her individual skill level is superior. She’s a tough competitor and in every game she gives 100 percent. Off the field she motivates her team,” Rhodes said.
“She really inspires us all to play our best in the field because we look at her and we see such greatness and it’s fun to see her succeed in every game no matter what she is doing,” senior Jenny Rosenthal said.
